The Hand has been after the Black Sky ever since Marvel and Netflix launched their partnership with Daredevil, and the ancient organization finally got their wish in the form of Elektra Natchios (Elodie Yung). But it’s as the old saying goes: Be careful what you wish for.
Over the course of Marvel’s The Defenders, Elektra evolves from a singularly focused killing machine into an even deadlier version of the assassin who fell in love with Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen. In the sixth episode of the event series, Elektra makes her independence known through two brutal acts: first killing Stick (Scott Glenn), the man who raised her like a daughter for much of her life, and later killing Alexandra (Sigourney Weaver), the woman who raised her from the dead. Elektra Natchios is a dangerous character. Audiences got a hint of that during the second season of Daredevil, but Netflix’s The Defenders revealed that she’s not just dangerous, she’s outright deadly and fairly hard to kill. Now, actress Elodie Yung is opening up the character’s future.
In the final moments of season, Elektra and Daredevil remain in the caves below The Hand’s Midland Circle office building knowing that the whole thing is about to blow and kill them, death being something Elektra seems more than ready for. But Elektra never wanted to run the Hand. All she wanted was to be free, as showrunner Marco Ramirez put it, and to be free with Matt (Charlie Cox). By the end of the series, she accomplishes the latter as Midland Circle crumbles around her and Daredevil, presumably crushing both of them underneath — until it turns out Matt survived. So what’s next for the sai-wielding ex-girlfriend of the Man Without Fear? Below, EW spoke with the French actress to look back on her most memorable scenes.
